Melbourne Clinical Trials

The Gum Protection Study

The purpose of this study is to trial a potential treatment for gum disease.

The study drug is a potential treatment for periodontitis – a chronic inflammation of the gums that can lead to jawbone and tooth loss over time.

Periodontitis is caused by untreated gingivitis, which is caused by a bacterium called P. gingivalis. The potential treatment that we are testing in this study has been developed to treat gums and teeth with these conditions, hopefully leading to fewer dental complications.

For this study we are looking for volunteers without periodontitis. If this study is successful, at a later stage the medication will be given to patients.

The trial has been approved by an independent ethics committee and eligible participants will be reimbursed for their time.
