It is hoped that this treatment could alter the course of the disease, rather than temporarily treating its symptoms like most drugs for Alzheimer’s disease do.

There currently are several medications that can affect the course of Alzheimer’s disease but
they have an increased risk of significant side-effects. There is a need for new, effective
treatments without significant side effects.

The trial has been approved by an independent ethics committee and eligible participants will be reimbursed for their time.
