We are conducting a study to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a potential new treatment for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) in healthy volunteers. Your participation is crucial in helping us advance our research and move closer to potential treatments for this genetic condition.

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is a genetic condition where the body doesn’t produce enough of the protein alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT). This protein protects the lungs from damage caused by infections and irritants like smoke. Without sufficient AAT, the lungs are more vulnerable to diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema. AATD can also affect the liver, leading to liver disease in some cases, including fibrosis. In essence, AATD compromises the body’s ability to protect the lungs and liver, potentially leading to serious health issues over time.

This is the first time the study drug is being administered to humans, so there may be unknown risks involved. However, this clinical trial has been carefully designed to minimize risks for participants. Before you decide to participate, you will receive detailed information about the trial, including its risks and our mitigation strategies. You will also have an appointment with one of our doctors, who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

By participating, you can provide valuable insight for those affected and contribute to a future with greater possibilities for people living with AATD.
