Clinical trials requiring participants with kidney impairment

Having a kidney impairment can have an impact on how medication is absorbed and secreted by your body. Understanding this process is an important part of the development of new medication, so people with varying stages of kidney impairment can be given the right dose of medication.

We also sometimes have clinical trials of medication being developed as a potential treatment for people who have some kind of kidney disease.

We collaborate with Kidney Specialists of Minnesota and we have our own team of medical experts. They carefully examine each proposed study and closely monitor participants to ensure maximum safety.

All of our clinical trials have received regulatory approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, all studies are reviewed and approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure safety & privacy requirements are met.

There is always some risk involved when participating in clinical trials. But we do everything we can to minimize this risk. Before you participate in a study, you will have the opportunity to talk to our medical staff who are happy to answer all of your questions.

During your screening visit, alongside a standard physical examination, you will receive a number of tests to determine your general health as well as the status of your kidney impairment. This includes your creatinine level and estimation of your kidney blood flow (eGFR).

Yes you can. We have highly trained Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) who perform dialysis runs for participants while they are at our clinic.

You definitely can! We have a variety of clinical trials. Some require participants with no medical history, others require participants with liver/hepatic impairment or a different medical condition. You can always give us a call on (612) 315-6490 or register your interest.

No worries if you don't have a car, we can provide you with transportation to/from your appointments and inpatient stay.

To ensure that we have reliable data from our clinical trials, negative tests for alcohol and recreational drugs are required before you can take part in a study.

A past history of alcohol/substance abuse is not an exclusion.
