Purpose: to evaluate the safety and tolerability of an investigational medication that would increase the percentage of sugars and fats consumed by the body instead of stored in the liver.

Participate in a clinical study of a potential treatment for Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

This study has 1 screening appointment, 4 separate inpatient stays of 5 days and 4 nights, & 9 outpatient visits.

This is a 2 part study; participants must be able to participate in both parts.

Reimbursement for study participation will be provided for time and travel of up to $10,916.

Participants must be able to eat entire meal; two eggs fried in butter, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of toast and a glass of whole milk.

Eligibility

Age: 18-55
BMI: 18.5-30.0 kg/m2
Medications: No prescribed or over the counter medications for 14 days before admit; hormonal birth control is acceptable
Smoking Status: Nonsmoker or no more than 5 cigarettes or equivalent per week
Study Duration: 84 days (about 3 months)
Meal Requirements: Must be able to eat high fat meal: two eggs fried in butter, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of toast and a glass of whole milk.
